Ahmed Mohamed tells Larry Wilmore about his next invention
He might not have too much trouble – Ahmed told Wilmore that building the clock that got him arrested was “really simple” because he’s already “built more stuff that’s very complicated”.
Wilmore said: “It does give you a little street cred”.
Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old Muslim high school student who was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to class, admitted that though his arrest was scary at times, it was also “kind of cool”. “It’s really simple to me”, Mohamed said.
TheBlaze reports that the media representative for the family called the teenager’s clock a “science project”, but Lesley Weaver, a spokeswoman for the Irving School District, said it was not part of any project or assignment MacArthur High School issued.
Mohamed was a guest on Larry Wilmore’s The Nightly Show where the pair nerded out about inventions and the teen shared details of his arrest over a clock he invented that was assumed to be a bomb. “The only reason I felt cool was because I knew I was innocent”.
“It was kind of cool”, Mohamed said.
Wilmore capped off the short appearance by gifting Mohammed two watches: The first a mess of wires, blinking lights and a soldering iron; the second, a new Apple watch.
On The Nightly Show, Ahmed revealed that at one point his hands were cuffed so far up his back that he was nearly doing “the Nae Nae backwards”, a yoga-worthy demonstration Wilmore said he wouldn’t be able to replicate if he tried.
