Ailing OF Cuddyer has knee re-examined, still out for Mets
Recent New York Mets rumors have been surrounding the status of their outfield prospect Michael Conforto.
Thursday, general manager Sandy Alderson offered an outline.
“There’s nothing else the doctors can say”, he said. Until then, however, he should be considered day-to-day. “Those are both considerations even in a tight time situation as this would be”.
Right now, the Wilpons and Alderson seemed determined to stand pat and watch as their once-beautiful ship full of potential sinks to the bottom of the seabed.
It at least has to be better than going with Kirk Nieuwenhuis or John Mayberry Jr. So is Matt Reynolds.
Prospect Michael Conforto has been killing it lately in Double-A as he his now hitting. I mean, the season is so long, why not just make it more hard for your team than it already is.
That said, the Nationals’ success raises an important question: With so many key players sidelined, how have they managed to stave off the Mets so far? He sat out of the lineup for four straight games after that before starting six of the next 10. Alderson said it’s not his preference to promote players from Class AA Binghamton. The first-round pick in last year’s draft was hitting.
“The doctor said he thinks hopefully that (Friday) his knee should start feeling a lot better”, Collins said. “We’ll have to make a decision on that [by today]”.
“Somebody like Conforto can be the exception [or] somebody like Conforto can come up with the intended goal of only being here for a week or 10 days to get through a player shortage that we might have”, Alderson said. So there are different scenarios. “Fundamentally, you have to keep in mind young players aren’t always extraordinarily successful”.
There is data to back him up.
The Mets are reliant on their pitching to succeed, which isn’t bad with a rotation as deep as theirs, but you still have to generate enough runs to support the starters.
The New York Mets’ 2015 season has been an ever-embarrassing transition from hopeful to helpless.
Wright originally landed on the disabled list in mid-April with a right hamstring strain, but he soon began dealing with lower back pain and was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. That would rank third on the Mets, only behind outfielder Curtis Granderson and first baseman Lucas Duda.
“We have to take into account his own maturity and skill set and not be bound by some of these generalities about young players”, Alderson said.
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York suggested that once Wright is cleared, it might take a month before he’s ready to play in major league games.
