Air France flight ‘bomb’ in toilet prompts emergency landing in Kenya
The item is now being examined by bomb experts while flights have now resumed, Kenya’s airport authority said on Twitter.
Air France from Mauritius to Paris made an emergency landing at Mombasa International Airport Sunday morning following a bomb scare.
Those on board were evacuated and the suspected bomb removed.
The inspector general of police Joseph Boinnet said the pilots requested an emergency landing when a device suspected to be an explosive was discovered in the lavatory. “An investigation is being led by the authorities to identify the source of the threat”, it said.
It had been due to fly directly to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.
A passenger said that the situation in the plane was calm and passengers thought there was a technical issue after the flight was diverted to Mombasa. So we just realized probably something was wrong.
“This Mombasa – Paris flight is scheduled to leave in the late afternoon of Sunday, December 20”, it said.
“The personnel of Air France was just great, they were just wonderful. We did not know what was happening”, said Luchini.
