Airline: Flight returns to airport after unspecified threat
As of 10:45 p.m., the plane was still on the ground in Charlotte.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating a security issue that diverted a Twin Cities-bound flight departing Charlotte, N.C., Monday night.
The nature of the security threat remained unclear Tuesday afternoon.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police evacuated the passengers and searched the plane, according to the Observer.
American Airlines officials confirmed to CBS News affiliate WBTV that Flight 1865 experienced the threat, but did not specify exactly what it was. And then he said ‘Hurry, quickly!’ and that kind of freaked us all out.
The airline switched out the aircraft, and the passengers departed for Minneapolis-St.
Among the passengers were ex- Minnesota Gopher basketball players Trevor Mbakwe and Oto Osenieks, who tweeted several photos and this short video clip, in which you can hear the pilot explaining the situation. Charlotte media organizations reported that bomb-sniffing dogs checked the plane before law enforcement officials cleared it. On Saturday night, a Southwest Airlines flight was forced to land after it received a threat.
