Airport: plane damage minimal in Morgan Freeman plane mishap
But he said they “landed safely without a scratch”.
A private plane carrying actor Morgan Freeman made a “forced landing” after its tires blew out while en route to Houston, his attorney said.
Morgan Freeman found himself in a chaotic situation on Saturday when a private jet he had commissioned went off a runway while making an emergency landing.
Mayor Bill Luckett of Clarksdale, Mississippi, a friend of Freeman’s said the plane had been forced into making a controlled landing, according to People.
NBC affiliate WMC in Memphis reported the landing occurred at Tunica Airport Saturday.
Its tires ruptured after takeoff, forcing it to land at Tunica Airport in MS, attorney William Luckett said. The 78-year-old was flying from his home in MS to attend the premiere of his new film Ruth & Alex at the festival.
“I cannot say the same about my plane”, Freeman added in the statement, which didn’t elaborate on the condition of the aircraft afterward. ‘I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety’.
Freeman did not suffer any injuries in the accident. Back in 2008, he was involved in a horrific vehicle crash in MS and had to be airlifted to the hospital with multiple broken bones. He also won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2004 for his role in the Clint Eastwood-directed movie, Million Dollar Baby.
No charges were filed and Freeman settled a lawsuit in 2009 that was filed by the passenger.
