Al-Qaeda commander among two terrorists killed in Karachi
Two suspected al-Qaeda militants were killed today when the Rangers carried out an operation in Gulshan-e-Iqbal town, according to a statement released by the paramilitary force.
The security forces also arrested some suspects including a woman during the action.
During the operation terrorists opened fire when their flat was raided as a result of which a personnel of the intelligence agency was martyred. The intelligence officer guided the paratroopers to the area.
The law enforcement agencies including the Rangers and police have been carrying an operation in Karachi since September 2013 against criminals involved in targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism in the city. Both later died from gunshot wounds.
Weapons were also retrieved from their possession, said the official. According to intelligence sources the killed terrorist Ahad was the leader of Al Qaeda activity in Karachi and involved in the Safoora attack, Geo News cited.
The terrorists were said to have rented the flat about seven months ago with a reference related to the owner of the flat by using a fake name.
The slain officer had been active against the banned outfits for the past several years and had busted a number of networks of the banned Taliban groups.
