Alabama family reunites with dog missing for 9 years
Boozer the dog, a ten-year-old boxer mix, was only eight months old when he escaped from his new family in Tennessee while they were in the process of moving to Alabama.
Goldston and his family quickly made the decision to take the 2,558 mile drive from Lacey’s Spring, south of Huntsville, Alabama, to the shelter in Colorado in order to see Boozer again and take him home.
A family had been caring for Boozer all along, but the shelter said they could no longer keep him.
KUSA-TV reports (http://goo.gl/l1uZsA ) that a man who had owned Boozer, a boxer, recently moved to Denver and gave the dog to Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden on August. 2.
Goldston’s only concern now is how much time he and his family will have left with the elder pooch – but Boozer still seems quite sprightly.
So Lloyd and his two children, who now live in Alabama, drove 18 hours to Golden to be reunited with Boozer.
“During the emotional reunion last Saturday, Goldston told shelter volunteers, “[Boozer] was never gone from our hearts”. Boozer appeared very happy to be back with his family. “It’s that level of emotion”.
It was a happy reunion for a Tennessee family nearly nine years in the making.
A Colorado family reunited with dog they lost nine years ago. After an exchange of pictures, he said he knew at once it was Boozer.
The shelter then scanned for a microchip. Shelter staff members then began the task of locating the family.
“We cannot emphasize to people enough to make sure there is permanent identification such as a microchip with your pet but also a collar and tags and a pet license”, Strickland explained.
Goldston said it is still hard to believe the boxer is back.
