Alabama governor’s wife seeks divorce
The complaint, filed Friday, says that attempts at reconciliation are futile and that the couple has been living apart since January.
Alabama’s First Lady, Dianne Bentley, has filed for a divorce.
Dianne Bentley wants the courts to award her the real properties acquired during their marriage, most notably their home.
She filed court documents Friday morning about thirty minutes before making a public appearance with the governor, reports ABC News.
As for Dianne Bentley’s future as First Lady, that’s unclear, according to Birmingham Southern Political Science Professor Natalie Davis. The governor spoke briefly with reporters about an upcoming special session on the state’s budget crisis, but didn’t mention the divorce, the Decatur Daily reported.
Dianne Bentley signed the divorce papers Wednesday.
Requests for comment from the Governor’s office were not immediately returned. The complaint says the couple’s personalities conflict.
The filing listed her address as the couple’s Tuscaloosa home and the governor’s as the Governor’s Mansion in Montgomery.
Bentley was first elected in 2010 and was reelected a year ago. They have four adult sons, seven granddaughters and one grandson.
Gov. Bentley is serving his second term.
The Bentleys aren’t the only long-time-married couple to make the news over their impending breakup.
