Alabama heads the group, Ohio State, Michigan and Clemson in Top 4
There are a couple of things, though, to keep our eye on as we move forward.
Alabama is still No. 1 as the lone undefeated team from a Power-5 conference. Louisville has one more game in ACC play, but it’s against lowly Wake Forest. The Wolverines control their own destiny, and by winning out they will have eliminated Ohio State one week and knocked out Wisconsin the next, and will have kept Penn State out of the Big Ten title game.
No. 8 Oklahoma (8-2) is the highest ranked Big 12 team, ahead of No. 10 West Virginia (8-1). In 2014, the Big 12 was left out. If the Nittany Lions win their next two games, and if Ohio State hands MI a second conference loss in the last week of the season, Penn State will go to the conference title game due to its head-to-head win over Ohio State.
The new rankings followed a chaotic Saturday on which three of last week’s top four teams – all previously unbeaten – were defeated.
Last week: Beat Mississippi State 51-3.
However, if Alabama remains in the No. 1 position and Clemson sits in fourth, those two would meet in one of the semifinals. Southern Cal 7-3 584 NR 16. Now in its third season of determining what four teams will face off in the four-team playoff, the rankings take the following into consideration: strength of schedule, team records, conference championships and head-to-head results.
That’s a bit of a downer for a Western Michigan team that has had an exciting week to this point, with ESPN’s cameras following the coaches’ and players’ every move leading up to “College GameDay” coming to Kalamazoo on Saturday. Michigan, which was a 14-13 loser at Iowa, remained at No. 3 despite the loss. “If so how will that effect Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin?”. If Michigan wins, they are on to the Big Ten title game. But I also think it’s going to be hard for the committee to leave out an 11-1 Ohio State team.
With all the chaos from Saturday, only one new team entered out top four…
The committee has long said it values conference championships and we could see just how valuable those could be once the regular season ends in early December. They will also have two losses, but both of those losses were by one touchdown to two top teams in Ohio State and MI. W. MI 10-0 634 14 15. There is not another path for the Wolverines. The Buckeyes, runaway winners over Maryland, moved up from fifth to second in the latest CFP rankings, as they made the most out of losses by Clemson, Michiganand Washington. Washington, which was No. 4 last week, slipped to No. 6 after being upset by USC. Troy’s lone loss this year is to Clemson. Even then Louisville might have to make a case against a Wisconsin team with a Big Ten championship and a victory against 16th-ranked LSU. Clemson is better in terms of resume and everything else and should be at No. 4.
