Alabama RB Henry takes home Heisman Trophy

In just his second year with the Clemson Tigers, Watson was one of three finalists to receive an invite to NY, but he’ll have to wait another year to try to take home college football’s most prestigious award – and now he can turn his focus to getting his undefeated Tigers their first national championship in 34 years.

Ingram won it at the expense of another Stanford running back, Toby Gerhart – just like Henry over Christian McCaffrey – in the closest Heisman voting ever.

The Yulee, Fla., native ran 339 times for 1,986 yards and 23 touchdowns in his first season as the team’s starting running back. He received 1,832 points from the voters, almost 300 points more than second place, all-purpose back Christian McCaffrey from Stanford. McCaffrey is Stanford’s fourth Heisman runner-up over the last seven years.

Despite being the Heisman favorite, Henry was nervous the moment before the victor was announced.

“It definitely did. I’m still dreaming because it hasn’t hit me yet”, Henry said.

“God has given me so many talents, and it’d be a sin if I don’t use them to the best of my abilities”, Christian said. Henry recorded nine 100-yard games this season, tying the Alabama record held by Ingram and Trent Richardson.

Reggie Bush, USC, 2005: The junior amassed 2,218 yards from scrimmage (1,740 rushing) and scored 19 touchdowns (16 rushing, two receiving, one on special teams) for the Trojans, who lost to Texas in the BCS National Championship Game. McCaffrey finished first in the balloting for the Far West region, second in the Northeast, South, Southwest and Midwest, and third in the Mid-Atlantic.

CBS actually began Henry’s campaign during its prime-time telecast of the LSU-Alabama game November 7. And he isn’t the best player on the nation’s best team. “I don’t want to go 13-0 and slip up at the end”.

“These guys are like family to us”, Saban said. “Even though you couldn’t be here, I feel you in spirit and I love you so much”. McCaffrey had over 1,100 yards just on returns (22.2 yards per return); ultimately, those yards don’t mean much other than you’re well conditioned. I understand that Alabama has won a lot of championships, I know that winning at Alabama over the last few years has to some become routine. McCaffrey had just 89 total yards of offense on 17 touches and no touchdowns in that game.

McCaffrey and the rest of Stanford football puts a bow on their season on New Year’s Day in the 102nd Rose Bowl Game against Iowa. It was similar to the bruising back’s running style, frank and to the point as the 6-foot-3, 242-pound running back thanked any and everyone who has everyone helped him throughout his life and career. His 271 yards in Alabama’s Iron Bowl win over Auburn broke a record set by former Heisman victor Bo Jackson.

Henry experienced the trip with his mother, Jastacia Veal, his father Derrick Sr., his school coach Bobby Ramsey and two other coaches Pat Dunlap and J.T. Medley along with their families and Alabama officials.
