Alabama Running Back Derrick Henry Wins The Heisman Trophy Award
I’m going to be motivated (for the playoff) regardless if I had won it or not. He may have been the only one.
“She worked hard for 62 years to provide for her family”, Henry said. “I had dreams and aspirations [when I was young] of winning this trophy one day”. I didn’t think it would happen… It’s a blessing and a honor.
Derrick Henry capped off an impressive junior season at Alabama with college football’s most prestigious award: the Heisman Trophy. “My heart was about to bust out my chest”. Derrick Henry said his grandmother was with him in spirit as his childhood dream of winning the Heisman came true. He had received the most points (1,832) for the award versus fellow nominees.
McCaffrey received 1,539 points, with 290 first-place votes. The other two finalists that were invited to New York City were Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey.
Each time an Alabama player won the Heisman Trophy, the ceremony fell on December 12 and a Stanford player was the runner-up.
Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has led the Tigers to an undefeated season and the top seed in the College Football Playoff.
McCaffrey isn’t the best running back in the land.
Henry now leads the FBS with 1,986 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns.
Derrick Henry called his shot. Here’s a Heisman season comparision for Ingram and Henry.
“He’s the first guy to give a lot of credit to a lot of other people”, Alabama coach Nick Saban said.
“Of course I want to be back and if I happen to stay my senior year, I want to be back then”, he said. “It’s just about us loving you'”. The number who could gain 271 yards under such circumstances is smaller still. Over the final two weeks of the regular season, Henry toted the rock a total of 90 times for 460 yards and two touchdowns.
“He did as much for his team as anybody could’ve done or ever has done for any of our teams”, Saban said. He thanked his community of Yulee, Florida, while also taking a moment to remember “his brother” Altee Tenpenny, the former Alabama running back who died in a vehicle crash in October. Sanders’ record for total yardage (rushing, receiving, special teams) stood until this season and was broken by Stanford sophomore Christian McCaffrey, who finished second in this year’s Heisman voting. “She told me she had tongue cancer”. “I’m sure I’ll see y’all again here next year”. You can put it up against any year anybody has had at any position. “That’s not even disputable”. Herschel Walker’s SEC rushing record that was set all the way back in 1981. It also didn’t hurt that he averaged more yards per carry after his 30th carry of a game (6.5) than before that (5.8) and that he never fumbled after his 30th carry of the night. It was the most rushing yards for a player from either school in the Iron Bowl (breaking the mark previously held by Bo Jackson) and the third-most in a game in school history. The SEC has been college football’s Tiffany league for years.
