Alabama’s Henry, Stanford’s McCaffrey, Clemson’s Watson named Heisman finalists
Furthermore, Alabama, while having five finalists in seven years, has had only one Heisman victor ever, that being Mark Ingram in 2009. Alabama running back Derrick Henry and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson both had exemplary seasons for playoff teams, but they were not as outstanding as McCaffrey.
Henry is the nation’s leader in rushing yards with 1,986 and rushing touchdowns with 23. All three play on conference-winning teams, two of which were selected for the College Football Playoff, and all three have been consistent playmakers throughout the season. And he’s deserving too, accounting for 30 passing touchdowns and 11 rushing scores. The sophomore quarterback has thrown for more than 3,500 yards, rushed for nearly 1,000, won an ACC Championship and was named Player of the Year in the ACC. It has been a dream of mine to bring my mom to NY and be a Heisman finalist.
But there must be a victor and these are how the finalists stack up against one another leading up to the Heisman cermony. Watson finished fourth in the country in total offense generated with 4,399 yards.
Here is the view from the Clemson campus why Watson should win the 2015 Heisman Trophy.
The finalists for the 2015 Heisman Trophy, college football’s most prestigious award, were announced on Monday night, and the list of names was surprisingly short. Derrick Henry of Alabama is getting all the love from the media right now and has been predicted as the front-runner. He’s also third among quarterbacks in rushing yards (887) and tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns (11).
Meanwhile, as great as Henry and McCaffrey were, nobody is going to cry foul if Clemson’s Watson were to hear his name called.
The votes have not been cast, but Vegas has declared the Heisman race over.
A Broyles Award finalist for the second time in his coaching career, Venables did not win the honor announced Tuesday morning.
McCaffrey, a 200-pound sophomore, surpassed Barry Sanders’ NCAA record for all-purpose yards in a season with 3,496.
Saban said he hasnt coached many players that actually set a better example to affect other people..
Watson has guided Clemson to a 13-0 record this season and is 17-1 as the Tigers’ starter over the last two seasons. Special teams are always important, but you usually don’t see special teams make quite as much of an impact on a game as this one, especially in the first half.
Watson, the quarterback for the 2012 Class AAAAA state champion Red Elephants, has a national following for his soft-spoken and polite manner – the polar opposite of numerous most famous players who’ve grabbed attention for scandal and eligiblity issues.
