Alabama’s unemployment rate drops for October
The state Department of Commerce reported Friday that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from 5.8 percent a month earlier.
A few states are struggling: West Virginia’s unemployment rate has jumped to 6.9 percent, the highest in the nation, from 6.1 percent 12 months ago.

The fastest increases over the past year have been in construction, which posted a gain of 7.3% since October of last year and business and professional services were up over 5.3%.
Sacramento area unemployment rose four-tenths of a point, to 5.5 percent, although payrolls in the region grew by 3,400.
Twenty-five states and the District of Columbia had statistically significant unemployment rate declines from October 2014, the largest of which occurred in Rhode Island (-1.7 percentage points) and MI (-1.6 points).
Leisure and hospitality – otherwise known as restaurants, bars and hotels – added a whopping 12,400 jobs in October, the most of all 11 industries statewide and the biggest monthly gain for that industry in at least 25 years.
The unemployment rates for Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha have not been seasonally adjusted, so they cannot be directly compared with the state unemployment rate. The Citywide unemployment rate is down from 6.6 percent this time past year.
In the Bay Area, San Mateo County had the lowest number of unemployed workers at 3.2 percent in October.

In October, Florida’s 24 regional workforce boards reported more than 34,874 Floridians, including 1,727 veterans, were placed in jobs.
State Democrats said Hoosiers deserve higher wages in the new jobs being created. The unemployment rate is derived from a federal survey of 5,500 California households.
