Alabama teacher apologizes for Kanye blackface Halloween photo: ‘Some of my
His wife, Shannon Morrow, is standing by his side, apparently dressed as Kim Kardashian, in a black leggings – with an elaborately padded posterior – and leopard print heels.
The Decatur City Board of Education held a meeting Monday morning to discuss the fifth grade teacher, Heath Morrow, who wore blackface to dress up as Kanye West for Halloween.
It features Morrow dressed up like Kanye West, wearing a gold chain, a backward baseball cap and holding up a sign that touts Kanye’s Presidential run in 2020.
The photo was posted to Morrow’s wife’s Facebook page when it got picked up by Reddit.
Heath works as a teacher at Chestnut Grove Elementary School, according to Decatur school district’s website. “Again I apologize and this will not happen again”. During the conference, Superintendent Ed Nichols read a letter of apology from the teacher involved.
Before the letter was read, Nichols said the school system was sad by the actions that took away from the focus of the schools.
(The photo has since been removed.) According to ALnews.com, the image was originally posted with the following caption: “Haha a few people thought Heath was really a black man”.
Morrow chose to take a very ignorant approach to “celebrating” an idolized figure and ended up appearing racially insensitive and a bit of a “culture vulture” … which actually makes me very afraid for the young minds he helps mold as an educator.
Earlier this month, a fraternity and sorority at UCLA faced criticism on social media and on-campus protests after they were accused of wearing black face during a “Kanye Western” party.
