‘Aladdin’ cast reunite and sing 23 years later
Almost a quarter of a century after the release of Aladdin, the actors who played Aladdin and Jasmine reunited on Good Morning America Friday (Oct. 9) morning to perform the classic song “A Whole New World”.
Prepare to get emotional.
Accompanied by the film’s soundtrack composer, Alan Menken, on the piano, Lea and Brad sounded as melodious as ever – and transported us straight back to that magic carpet ride.
Disney freaks hoping to snatch the re-release as soon as it hits stores have only one more day to wait.
“I just wanted that very romantic feeling of a flight over the city”, Menken said of his experience in writing the instantly recognizable song.
It also netted the Grammy Award for Song of the Year and is the first and only track from a Disney animated movie to top the US’ Billboard Hot 100.
Both Salonga’s and Kane’s careers extended past “Aladdin” into Broadway and other parts of show biz. The the eight-time Oscar victor said it’s a favorite at weddings.
The cast and team of the famous Disney animation also got together on the American chat show to talk all things Robin Williams.
The performance coincides with the release of the Aladdin Diamond Edition, out October 13.
