Alcatel OneTouch launches Fierce XL smartphone at CES 2016
Alcatel OneTouch has now unveiled its first Windows 10 smartphone called the Fierce XL. Memory is configured as a 2GB RAM module coupled with 16GB of storage (which can be doubled via microSD card).
It will be interesting to see how many other vendors are willing to make smartphones running Windows 10 Mobile. Alcatel OneTouch has future plans for what it’s referring to as a Windows 10 “superphone”, created to take on the major high-end flagships on the market.
The Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL will be available starting later this month in Light Blue color only. The affordably priced Fierce XL with Windows 10 offers consumers more of the popular Microsoft Office Mobile productivity applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, as well as OneDrive, to help keep on the go workflow a breeze.
The OneTouch Fierce XL will be available for $140 all in from T-Mobile.
Finally, if Windows 10 Mobile doesn’t quite cut it for your needs, a separate version of the Pixi 3 (8) will come with Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Unlike the new Lumia’s, the Fierce XL has off-screen touch sensitive buttons meaning the screen is completely free for content.
The absence of Continuum may deter some Windows phone fans from picking up the Fierce XL, since Continuum appears to be a big feature that could win over users, but future Alcatel devices could add support.
The smartphone is backed by a 2500mAh battery and the company claims that the device has the ability to deliver up to 14 hours of talk time and up to 820 hours of standby time. Its 720p display was clear and bright, and the 1.1-GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor capably launched the Camera app without lag. AT&T now sells the Lumia 950, which Microsoft released late previous year alongside the Lumia 950 XL as its first flagship Windows 10 phones. The Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 tablet has connectivity options that include 4G, WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.1, and it has voice calling capabilities.
