Alden Ehrenreich Officially Cast as Han Solo in Star Wars Spinoff
“I feel like I’m coming out of a ride and seeing you guys in line about to go into it”, Johnson said. “It was a break from tradition”. “I’ve never screen-tested with a Wookiee. It was a unique experience”.
On hand for the conference were John Boyega and the legends themselves, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, who brought their dogs along. “Rian is awesome”, said Boyega.
Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (the likely title, so we’ll use this for now) opens in theaters May 25, 2018. Lord and Miller revealed they’ve just now relocated to London to begin preparations and finish working on the script. If all goes according to plan, they expect to roll camera in late January or early February 2017. He doesn’t want to do anything that he’s told to do. The filmmakers aptly described the character as “sarcastic and optimistic”, a character that “doesn’t want to do anything he’s told”. That’s why we got so excited about making this movie: “the dichotomy between this grouchy guy with the biggest heart in the galaxy”. He is clever but he’s not smart. “He is one of the most iconic characters of all time”.
Alden Ehrenreich has been confirmed to play the young Han Solo. Around 3,000 actors auditioned for the role, and in the end, Alden Ehrenreich, who they say was the first person to read for the role, was cast as the legendary smuggler. “We just moved here [London] two days ago”, Miller said.
“I am going to take it out of your salary”, quipped Kennedy. “Let’s make them responsible for those questions you might think to ask me because I’m not involved”.
ExtraTV.com as there as Ehrenreich told the crowd, “I auditioned for about 6 months”.
For his initial audition, Ehrenreich dressed up as Han Solo and screen tested with Chewie inside the famous Millenium Falcon. The directors also said they were using numerous same crew that were on Episode VIII and Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One.
