Alex Morgan unwilling to comment on trade to Orlando Pride
That smile remained when she was asked about reports last week that she could soon be dealt from the Portland Thorns to the NWSL’s expansion Orlando Pride, which begins play in 2016.
“Right now, I do call Orlando home”.
While Morgan declined to speak about the reported trade, she did praise the fans in Orlando and the Orlando Pride’s ownership group.
Alex Morgan has refused to confirm or deny rumors that she will soon be joining the National Women’s Soccer League’s newest expansion team, the Orlando Pride. She was on the US team that won the Women’s World Cup this summer in Canada.
One of his first tasks was to film the team’s preparations for their debut MLS season, with a special emphasis on their opening “Fill The Bowl” game against New York City on March 8. “My agent is dealing with all of those negotiations”, Morgan said. “Just seeing all the stickers for Orlando City on everyone’s auto and the purple”. According to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl, Morgan, as well as Canadian worldwide Kaylyn Kyle, will be traded to the Pride for the team’s first pick in the NWSL draft, two global slots, USWNT defender Meghan Klingenberg and forward Lindsey Horan as an allocation, if the American decides to leave Paris Saint-Germain for NWSL.
Morgan, a key member of the 2014 Women’s World Cup championship team, has 54 goals in global play since 2010 and scored 15 goals with Portland in three seasons. The Thorns finished just 6-9-5 in 2015, but have been one of the most successful franchises in the NWSL – making the playoffs in 2013 and 2014.
A couple of players who have been mentioned have been Alex Morgan and Satellite High graduate Ashlyn Harris, who both are now on NWSL teams.
“I’m with Portland as of right now, so nothing’s confirmed”, Morgan said after the match.
Morgan continued, “If an opportunity arose where I was in Orlando that would be a great opportunity to be with my husband and be part of an expansion team and the continued success of the NWSL”. “Over the course of the coming weeks and months, I will work closely with the Club’s General Manager Paul McDonough to build our technical staff and roster, attracting a few of the best talent in women’s professional soccer to Orlando”.
