Alex Neil confirms Norwich City’s interest in Italy striker Destro
Norwich City boss Alex Neil has confirmed an interest in AS Roma striker Mattia Destro, with talks under way for the Italian, as per the Guardian.
“I have said before I won’t just go and sign players, I will wait to the end [of the transfer window] if I have to”.
Asked at Friday’s press conference if he was interested in the 24-year-old, Neil said: “I didn’t know you knew about that one“.
“They were above that level so what we’re trying to do now is convert that into Premier League level, which is obviously more hard”.
However things turned pear shaped for Destro last season where he was strangely frozen out of the Roma first team and then went on to spend an unsuccessful loan spell at AC Milan during the second half of the campaign. He fared even worse there with three goals in 15 games.
Destro would be a welcome addition to the Rossoblu squad as the club look to enjoy a positive season in the Italian top-flight, having won promotion from Serie B last term through the play-offs.
Serie A newcomers Bologna have made all the running with their sporting director Panteleo Corvino in numerous discussions with Roma over the past few weeks.
The Scot pulled the plug on a move for Celta Vigo striker Joaquin Larrivey earlier this summer and Neil insists he will not be swayed into panic buys with the window open until September 1.
