Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry tease Burnout spiritual successor
The studio has previously teased that its debut title will be a “new twist on a sports game”, surprising fans of Ward and Sperry’s previous work, who no doubt expected a new Burnout-style game.
Very little was known about the sort of games they’re going to be working on, until today.
The first one confirms they’re working on two games, the first is a multiplayer sports game that’s coming in spring 2016. “Traffic. Lots and lots of crashing”.
What would you like to see in a spiritual Burnout sequel?
Three Fields’ co-founder Alex Ward has confirmed to Develop that the game will be a “spiritual successor to one of the Burnout series for PC, PS4 and Xbox One”, and that the developer aims to support virtual-reality headsets PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift.
However, according to the Three Fields Entertainment tweets, it looks like the developers are going more for a game similar to the earlier entries.
Criterion itself ruled out a new Burnout just earlier this week, tweeting that it had “moved on to newer, even better things”.
EA may own the rights to Burnout, but they don’t seem to be doing anything about that, with the last game – Burnout Paradise – having been released in 2008. It’s the third entry, Burnout 3: Takedown, that’s widely regarded as the high point.
