Alexis Sanchez like a lion on the hunt, Arsene Wenger says
With the club’s marquee players firing against outclassed Dinamo, Arsenal head to Athens on December 9 knowing a 3-2 victory or better over Olympiacos will be enough to see them advance from Group F behind Bayern Munich. Cech, though, was confident Arsenal could get the two-goal winning margin required to progress.
Wenger is now keen to turn his attention back to the Barclays Premier League after seeing his side miss the opportunity to go top of the table following a defeat at West Brom on Saturday.
We played at a good pace, produced a game of quality that we wanted.
“It gives us a chance but how big the chance is I don’t know”, said Arsene Wenger, whose side are on six points, three behind the Greeks.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits to being a fan of Jamie Vardy’s tenacity, likening him to the lion-like Alexis Sanchez.
The last thing we need is Alexis aggravating his hamstring this weekend and being ruled out for weeks, and he needs a rest anyway, so let’s not take any risks against Norwich.
“I will have to assess that a bit later. It is very important to balance our team, and the defensive role and the efficiency in this position is equally very important because we are a team who like to go forward”.
But the likes of Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta all in the treatment room alongside Coquelin, with a lack of central midfielders the main issue Wenger is likely to address if he buys in the transfer window. I believe the speed of our movement and passing gave Zagreb a problem.
“It will be tough but I have to believe we can do it”.
Sanchez again played 90 minutes against Dinamo despite burnout fears, and Wenger will check on the Chile star’s minor hamstring strain before deciding whether to pick him at Norwich on Super Sunday.
“We should have everybody available, the players who played on Tuesday night, plus maybe Chamberlain should be back in the squad”, Wenger told reporters at his pre-match news conference.
“They are more street players, not pampered”.
