Alfre Woodward To Appear In Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’
Alfre Woodard has been picked to join the cast of Marvel’s dramatic series Luke Cage on Netflix.
We’re still a few months away from Netflix’s next Marvel series, Jessica Jones, but the network is showing no signs of slowing down, especially after Daredevil burst out. The actress who has appeared in such shows and movies as Desperate Housewives, Miss Evers’ Boys, State of Affairs and 12 Years a Slave, will apparently be portraying a villain in the series. Which character Woodard plays from the original mythology-assuming she’s not portraying a wholly new creation-is not clear. However, Deadline is reporting that Woodard’s “Minetta” could actually be a cover for Luke Cage’s main Marvel Comics adversary, Black Mariah. Given that “Daredevil” premiered in April, I’d look for “Jessica Jones” (and thus Luke Cage’s debut) during the last quarter of the year – some time in October through December.
Then comes Cage. The character will first be introduced in the Jones series, as the duo are a couple in the comics.
Woodard is said to be joining the marvel universe as a character by the name of Minetta. She may be a version of villain Black Mariah, a nemesis to Cage and Iron Fist. Cheo Hodari Coker is the showrunner and will pen the first two episodes. We reported in-depth on the known details of Jessica Jones here.
For those who are unfamiliar with Luke Cage, he also goes by the name “Power Man”, and has super strength and unbreakable skin, and received his powers from a failed experiment.
