Alienware Unveils Oculus Rift-Ready PCs
A Tech Insider report has Oculus listing Dell, Asus and Dell subsidiary Alienware as participating PC Makers for Rift headset. That means it will bundle a $1,000 computer with a $600 VR headset. However if you don’t, you might need to invest in some new hardware.
“To see 2016 and CES be the home of multiple manufacturers announcing and releasing timings for their VR to come onto the market, the competition makes a really exciting space”, says Ernest Doku, technology expert for uSwitch, a UK-based price comparison service.
Alienware will also sell machines that cost more than that. Some VR fans said the game is the most entertaining during demo events. VR was the main attraction this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Medical training, travel marketing, construction and design are other areas where virtual reality promises great potential, and a number of organizations have already been experimenting with such technologies, he said.
Virtual reality headsets will be all the craze this year according to experts with projected sales expected to skyrocket by 500 percent.
This Alienware Oculus Rift bundle features the Oculus Rift with an Alienware X51 gaming desktop which costs less to the consumers when the buy it together.
There are huge functional problems to overcome. “It’s an awesome time to be a gamer”. Luckey said it was demanding because the graphics card has to render a 3D image for each eye and run it at 90 frames per second.
And that’s going to be good for Dell and its Alienware division.
The recommendations for the GeForce piece of equipment were made noting the fact that the Oculus Rift does not have the same graphic necessities as a standard monitor would.
Here are the recommended PC system requirements of the Rift. The Alienware system, as well as the Oculus Rift, will also be available for individual purchasing at a price of $1,200, respectively $600.
“To [Dell’s] credit, you have been able to push down the pricing more than we thought”, Azor said.
Oculus also said that all backers of the Oculus Rift Kickstarter who pledged for a development kit will receive a free “Kickstarter Edition” of the device.
