All 7 of Luis Severino’s strikeouts in Yankees debut

He made a start a few weeks ago against the Yankees, tossing 6 1/3 innings while allowing two earned runs and walking one. However, Owens’ courage did not falter, as the young lefty had an excellent evening. The Yankees made it 4-2 on an RBI groundout.

The start lowered Wright’s ERA for the season to 4.12, which is the lowest for any Red Sox starter except the injured Clay Buchholz. Not exactly dominating numbers to inspire confidence that Owens could keep the A.L. East division leaders off of the scoreboard.

After that, it was pretty clear sailing for Owens.

Nathan Eovaldi is still a below-average starter, even if the Yankees’ offense tries to hide that for him, and Ivan Nova hasn’t exactly blown opponents away in his return to the mound. Farrell replaced Ross with Jean Machi, but the damage was done. Alejandro De Aza followed that with a double, scoring Napoli to make it 1-0.

Heck, most times, Wright barely reaches 77 miles per hour. He was 0 for 3 through two appearances off the bench for the Yankees since being acquired from Seattle last week. (Carlos Beltran’s solo home run came in the seventh.) He just knew that he was where he belonged. He struck out seven without issuing a walk.

Owens helped himself by working fast. Napoli is 5 for 8 lifetime vs. Tanaka with three doubles and two homers…. Before the game, GM Brian Cashman and Girardi reinforced as much.
