All Inmates Recaptured from California Jailbreak
“As citizens saw someone, saw something suspicious, notified an officer, and that notification ultimately led to the apprehension of two armed and unsafe suspects wanted who escaped from jail”.
When police went back to investigate the van, parked on Haight Street near Stanyan, they discovered Tieu – who had been held on gang-related murder and attempted murder charges before his escape – hiding inside. He surrendered without incident.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department operates the jail in Santa Ana from which the three prisoners escaped. What did they do outside the walls? “The idea of how smart they were to stay out of sight, but I guess there came time they couldn’t stay in that long”, Gray said. Five people outside the jail were arrested Wednesday in the investigation of the escape, but it’s not clear what role any may have played in the jailbreak.
Ravaghi was arrested Thursday for allegedly providing information to Nayeri, who was one of her jailhouse students. Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock said Saturday that the inmates were last seen at 5 a.m. on Friday and could have escaped anytime between then and late Friday night.
The 44-year-old woman was arrested Thursday and booked on suspicion of being an accessory to a felony.
Jailers did not realize the inmates were missing for 16 hours, an embarrassment for Hutchens that has prompted changes in jail operations, but no firings.
He said the man appeared cooperative.

Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens vowed over the weekend to fix the security lapses that allowed the brazen escape.
At that point, he said he stopped looking.
Dominguez called for the dismissal of Capt. Chris Wilson, who runs the jail.
Hutchens said an internal investigation will determine the complete facts of the escape and examine department practices. But she said it had not made any personnel changes as of yet because of the escapes. Sheriff Sandra Hutchens earlier this week cited Nayeri’s troubled and conniving past when she labeled him as “most probably the mastermind” of a stunning jail break that blindsided authorities and has put three inmates on the loose. He said investigators have detected some problems with how counts were conducted in this instance.
Some also questioned why inmates accused of violent crimes were housed in dormitories rather than individual cells, which is the practice at other jails and prisons in the state.
Nayeri fled to Iran and was arrested by authorities in Prague on his way to visit family. Duong approached friends at a Santa Ana business, who called police at his request. Immigration authorities and records indicate he had been ordered deported to Vietnam in 1998 but remained in the country and racked up a lengthy rap sheet.
Duong was being held without bond since December on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and other charges.
