All Star Starting Lineups Announced
The Cincinnati Reds star who not only starred at Toms River South and Rutgers, but made a name for himself as an all-star Little Leaguer, received the starting nod thanks to fan voting, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.
The Sunday (July 5) New York Times offers options, including the Cincinnati Museum Center in Union Terminal, where the special Queen City Baseball: Diamonds and Stars exhibit is on display.
The reserves will be announced Monday night at 7 p.m. on an another ESPN selection show.
Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta and Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier round out the starters in the infield.
Just three weeks ago, it looked like the AL roster would just be the Royals’ starting lineup: Eight Kansas City regulars were leading their respective races, with only rightfielder Alex Rios missing in action-and he was fourth in the outfield voting despite having missed a huge chunk of the season with a hand injury. I would much rather see a good player play in the All-Star game than a popular player.
D-backs manager Chip Hale said that Goldschmidt, who played at Texas State University and was drafted in the eighth round in 2009, should serve as an example for others.
Other American League starters elected by fans include first baseman Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers, second baseman Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros, third baseman Josh Donaldson of the Toronto Blue Jays, outfielder Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels and designated hitter Nelson Cruz of the Seattle Mariners.
Donaldson is the third Blue Jay in the past five years to lead the All-Star voting.
It will be the second straight appearance in the All-Star game for Frazier, who is in his fifth season with the Reds. Votto finished in second place in the fan vote, while Phillips finished third. There wasn’t anything shocking about the players that were selected to start in both leagues. He’s trying to win the game because he knows his team could benefit from home field advantage.
The Giants’ representatives are starting catcher Buster Posey, second baseman Joe Panik, shortstop Brandon Crawford and left-hander Madison Bumgarner, the reigning World Series Most Valuable Player. The integrity of the All-Star game is important for me.
“I was really nervous”.
-Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper will skip the Home Run Derby next week because his father is not available to pitch to him. The 86th All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 160 countries. Major League Baseball Network and SiriusXM will also provide comprehensive All-Star Week coverage.
