Alleged bike thief lassoed by rancher
A quick-thinking OR rancher saved the day on Friday when he stopped an alleged bike thief by jumping on his horse and lassoing the man with a rope.
That’s when he grabbed a horse named Long John and gave chase.
The debacle began when Arellano-Sanchez attempted to steal a mountain bike from a woman in front of the Wal-Mart. Borba admitted, “I just don’t run very fast”.
“He jumped on his horse that was at the ready and pulled out his lasso”, Alyssa said. Borba was able to successfully rope the man by the ankles.
Here’s the clincher: As Borba high-tailed it after Arellano-Sanchez, the alleged bike thief incredulously asked, “Do you have a badge to do this?” “If [a rope] catches cattle pretty good, it catches a bandit pretty good”, he reasoned.
The police officer who responded said after the arrest was complete, Borba only said: “Can I have my rope back?”
The man was attempting to steal the bicycle when the woman whose bicycle it was called attention to the ongoing theft.
The suspect was kept tied up until police arrived.
“That’s a first for me”, Sgt. Darin May said. He grew up competing in rodeos, according to the Medford Mail Tribune, but has now settled down with his family on a ranch in Eagle Point, Oregon.
