Allegiant Air flight makes emergency landing in Rhode Island
The plane took off in Orlando and was headed to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said airport spokesman Albert Waterhouse.
A reported engine problem caused the flight to be diverted to Chattanooga, according to ABC affiliate WTVC.
A flight destined for Bangor, Maine made an emergency landing in Warwick, Rhode Island Wednesday after an abnormal smell was noticed on the aircraft. There were 151 passengers and six crew members on board.
No injuries were reported, and officials say there was no indication of fire or smoke.
“All three diversions were for very different and unrelated reasons”, the airline said in the statement.
“Out of abundance of caution, an emergency was declared and the aircraft landed safely at [Jacksonville International]”, said Allegiant in an email.
Flight 736 took off from Orlando Sanford International Airport and landed at TF Green Airport in Warwick at 4:28 p.m. local time.
The airline said the flights were among 212 that originated in Orlando in the past seven days.
A relief plane will be sent to Bangor on Thursday morning to collect those passengers for a 10:30 a.m. departure, Caruso said.
