Allegiant expands service in Savannah with 4 new flights

Johnson points out that slot constraints at Washington National would have made it hard for Allegiant to launch service, while Washington Dulles would be less convenient for Baltimore-area travellers.

The Las Vegas-based Allegiant suspended all service in 2009 to the airport after a 3½-year run with flights to Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla.

Smith said Allegiant’s lower fares match BWI’s brand as an “easy-come, easy-go” airport, known for other budget airlines such as Southwest Airlines, Norwegian Air, Spirit Airlines and Wow Air, all of which increased local service past year.

Among those scheduled to be at Tuesday’s announcement at the airport are St. Clair County Chairman Mark Kern and MidAmerica Airport Director Tim Cantwell.

“Our air service network is a critical driver of economic activity, and these new flights will support even more growth in our region”. The airline already offers flights in the $40-60 range between Asheville Regional Airport and various locations in the Florida peninsula.

Focusing on low-cost leisure travel, the company provides customers with low base fares averaging almost half of the cost of the average domestic round-trip fare.

“They advertise one fare, but they charge you for everything”, said Sandy Harbison of Avondale Travel. Using a credit card could add $8 per passenger to the bill.
