Allen departs Liverpool for Stoke
Stoke’s opening offer for Allen was rejected last week, with Liverpool initially sticking to their £14million valuation, but a compromise has been reached between the two clubs.
Earlier today, news broke that Liverpool and Wales midfielder Joe Allen had agreed personal terms and was undergoing a medical at Stoke City.
Hughes could unveil Allen alongside Sobhi if all goes to plan with the Egyptian’s protracted £3.5m transfer from Al Ahly also set to be finalised.
Allen had one year left on his contract at the Merseyside club and after he was made aware that his services are no longer required at Liverpool, the Wales worldwide chose to leave the Reds.
There was some competition from Allen’s former club Swansea, who held positive talks with the Liverpool officials.
It is understood Swansea’s bid to re-sign Allen has fallen by the wayside and he is happy to remain in the north-west, where he has settled.
Allen was named in the Euro 2016 team of the tournament after shining for Wales in their run to the semi-finals in France, although his club spell with Liverpool in recent seasons.
Allen completed his switch to join Mark Hughes’ Potters on Monday despite the Swans confirming on several occasions their desire to bring the player back to the Liberty Stadium.
In addition to Stoke, Swansea were also after the signature of the 26-year-old.
Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes said: “We are delighted to get Joe”.
“We were working on it all weekend and we are very pleased we were able to get it over the line”.
“As soon as I knew there was an opportunity like this there for me it was easy to make the move”.
