Alliance honors World War II veterans
At Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on Friday, city officials from Honolulu and Nagoaoka, Japan, gathered with the U.S. Navy for a memorial service, The Associated Press reported. You can see that gratitude here by so many that have served in the military.
Bangor celebrated its veterans Saturday on the 70th anniversary of the end of the bloodiest war in world history. Suzi told me what his second greatest achievement might have been saying, “one of his proudest moments was he and his wife put 30,000 miles on his bike riding across the east coast”. “I’m proud I made it over there and back”.
After the ceremony, Ursey – one of three female World War II veterans in attendance – swapped stories with other veterans. Graves that are filled with the remains of those who fought to preserve what many consider to be the greatest country in the world. As several speakers pointed out, people on the home- front contributed greatly to the war effort. She and a group of women enlisted after World War II started in 1939.

“We are commemorating Japan’s surrender to the Allied forces”, she said. Shaheen said those who served “helped break the occupation in Europe” and bring freedom throughout the world.
“We felt the need that we wanted to be here to honor not only my dad, but all the soldiers that are here”, she said.
Hassan’s proclamation declared August 9 to 16 as World War II Commemoration Week in the state.
