Alligator weighing over 900 pounds caught in Alabama lake
The gator was weighed at Dixon Lumber Co., AL.com reports.
Hunter Scott Evans from Center Point, Alabama, and friends Jeff and Justin Gregg were startled when they successfully reeled in the 13-foot, 6-inch gator from Lake Eufala during their second attempt at hooking it, AL.com reported.
“Alligators are part of the natural ecosystem of Eufaula and have been for several decades now”, Gray said.
Supervising Wildlife Biologist Bill Gray, of the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries, says that alligators aren’t an uncommon sight in Eufaula. “We weren’t expecting anything that big”. When the reptile was opened up, approximately 115 pounds of the weight was due to a deer found in the alligator’s stomach.
Gregg said he and Evans have been hunting alligators for five years. “We took some measurements of its girth, base and around its tail after it was in the boat”, the alligator hunter said.
“It is pretty unbelievable when you think about it”, he added.
Gregg said that the alligator has been harvested for its meat – 230 pounds of it, not counting the tendons or dark meat – and the hide will be displayed by a taxidermist.
It required a team of six men to pull in the beast from the waters of Lake Eufaula on Friday. Evans told the media he is already to try out some new gator BBQ recipes.
News of the massive alligator catch has garnered Scott Evans a plethora of attention. Evans said he received an email reply from the outdoor store asking him to send some photos of the Lake Eufaula alligator.
The huge alligator recently caught in Lake Eufaula in Alabama weighed in at a whopping 920 pounds.
