Almost half a million 2016 Volkswagens have bogus Carbon dioxide readings
VW is grappling with the biggest business crisis in its 78 year history after admitting in September it cheated USA emissions tests on diesel vehicles and adding earlier this month that it also understated fuel usage in a few cars.
VW has acknowledged that nearly 11 million of its smaller diesel cars worldwide have “defeat device” software installed on them. In regular driving, the vehicles emitted up to 40 times more pollution.
Across all brands, 1.14 million vehicles were sold in Europe in October, the Belgium-based Association of European Carmakers said Tuesday.
US law firm Jones Day has been running an independent inquiry at VW into the emissions test cheating since September, and VW on Thursday pledged to speed up a program to encourage staff to cooperate in the investigations.
The company was notified on Thursday and will have to present a plan on how it will fix its vehicles to comply with Brazilian norms, Xinhua reported.
VW group’s sales were however lifted by its biggest market China, where deliveries rose 1.6 percent to 312,200 cars for the month.
“The Volkswagen passenger cars brand is experiencing challenging times”.
And for cars bearing the VW badge, sales fell 5.3 percent for the month.
Other markets kept growing, but less so than in recent months.
Diesel vehicle sales contributed over 50% to the total auto sales in Europe.
Owners will not be required to sign anything giving up their right to sue Volkswagen or forcing them into arbitration, spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan said Monday. The company has been providing thousands of dollars in incentives to potential buyers to help keep USA sales alive.

Jean-Francois Belorgey, at consultants EY, said the forthcoming release of the ACEA’s November figures should give “a much clearer idea” on the lasting impact of Volkswagen’s emissions scandal because VW was still delivering cars ordered before the scandal broke.
The Volkswagen vehicle models that failed the test include its popular models such us the Volkswagen Golf, Passat, Jetta and Tijuana, Volkswagen’s SEATA and Skoda brands.
