Alonso bullish on McLaren future
Jenson Button admits that McLaren’s best chance of points at the Brazilian Grand Prix depends on the weather forecasts for Sao Paulo.
Yet another problem with his power unit forced him to park his vehicle but instead of rushing back to the paddock, the Spaniard chose to sunbathe next to the track.
While shots of Alonso relaxing in a trackside deckchair set the internet alight post-qualifying, Button was left to try and explain the latest disappointment although, once again, he tried to shed a positive light on what is fast becoming a desperate – and embarrassing – situation for two once great F1 names.
“This is a tough period”.
“I did a few good laps here and there”, the double Formula One world champion told reporters at the Brazilian Grand Prix, singling out qualifying in Japan and then the United States race in Austin last month. We need to fix many problems on the reliability side.
“I think all our weaknesses are being identified, however”.
Button managed to take part in qualifying, but he was knocked out in Q1.
“So I am looking forward to it and we’ll get the maximum out of what we have, which is always what we do”. “It was the most fun I’ve had this weekend”.
“Definitely it would be a frustrating year and it would be sad news because we have high hopes for next year and I really trust the team and believe we have the talented people and resources to do well”, he said of the prospect of an uncompetitive 2016 auto.
“I didn’t take part in the race in Mexico, and now qualifying here. Anything will help us – if it rains, it opens up many opportunities and hopefully we’ll be able to capitalise on one of them”. “But, even so, we’ve had a lot of support, and it’s meant a lot to us – to me personally – and I want to reassure the fans that we’re all in it together and we’ll work through it together too”.
