Merlin Entertainments, owner of LEGOLAND, Madame Tussauds and London Eye, has said it expects earnings (before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) could be as low as £40 million ($62 million) for its theme parks division, compared to £87 million ($135 million) in 2014, ahead of its first half results this Thursday.
But the period was overshadowed by a horrific rollercoaster accident at Alton Towers and earlier this week the company warned the effects of which would reduce full-year profits by as much as £47m. The Smiler has since remained closed.
Merlin said trading across its theme parks has been, and continues to be, “significantly impacted” by the accident on The Smiler ride at the Alton Towers.
