Altwork Station puts you in a position to work
The seat can be folded right back, but thanks to magnets in the desk, aluminium keyboards and mice – like those made by Apple – stay in place, while an industry-standard Vesa mount holds the screen in place, too. They can work while laying down, sitting as well as standing.
The desk can be used in multiple positions and allows users to preprogram up to four favorites.
Its high-tech design allows people to repel talkative co-workers in the “focus” position… or even have a little lie down after lunch. You can also stand up or pace around the station while talking on the phone.
The giant mechanized chair-bed-desk combo isn’t the most subtle of office set ups – it looks rather like a dentist’s chair – still, we imagine it would be a welcome addition to any PC gamer’s den or Netflix addict’s home.
The work station is the result of many years of experimentation and will cost $5,900, but the startup will sell the first batch for $3,900. The tech-forward station will make the computer adjust to you instead of the other way around. In fact, the position is so relaxed that it would seem to buttress Voight’s claims that productivity might be increased in such a position. He says that coders who have tried out the Altwork Station have often remarked that the only thing they would need to fully zone out into their own worlds for hours at a time is a pair of headphones.
Voight doesn’t expect that a product with this sort of price tag will suddenly dominate offices.
“We designed the Altwork Station as a tool for professionals who use a computer all day”, said Che Voigt, CEO and a founder of Altwork.
