Aly Raisman’s Parents Go Viral Again After Nervously Watching Rio Olympics!
This time round, the Raismans will again have to hold on o their seats when Team USA takes to the floor for the women’s team all-around final Tuesday. At the end of their subdivision, they had earned the highest team qualifying score, 185.238, by far.
Gabby Douglas, 2012 Olympics all-around champion, finished third, but the two-per-country rule prevents her from defending her title this year.
So it was up the all-around race to provide the drama: three of the US women were eligible, but only two would be allowed to advance due to the two-per-country rule.
The American women’s gymnastics team came in first place in the qualifying for the team finals with a score of 185.238 points, ahead of second place China with a score of 175.279 and third place Russian Federation with 174.620. All three broke sixty and were at least a point ahead of the 4th place finisher, but only Biles and Raisman will move on to the all-around final. But I’m sure it stings she’ll never get a shot.
In an interview with People, Lynn Raisman said she “always cries” at her daughter’s meets.
Luckily, Aly did in fact qualify for the all-around final for her second Olympics in a row. She finished as the top qualifier to the all around final by nearly two points. Biles scored 62.366 to win by more than 1.7 points.
But Douglas’ pain and frustration is Raisman’s joy.
With the team and all-around golds practically assured, Biles is on track to be the first female gymnast to ever win five gold medals in one Olympics.
While Aly Raisman was the picture of focus during the women’s artistic gymnastics qualification at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games on Sunday (August 7), her parents couldn’t have been more nervous!
19-year-old Simone Biles, the break out star for U.S., held the top score of the day in floor, vault, and balance beam.
