Amazon Announces Mini Echo Spot Speaker With Screen, Video Calling
The device that has thus far received most of the attention is the Echo Spot, a mini speaker with a 2.5-inch colour screen.
The new device offers much better sound than the original Amazon Echo, thanks to support for Dolby Audio, which means it’ll compete more directly with products such as the Sonos Play:1 and even Apple’s upcoming HomePod, the latter of which is due out before the holidays.
The Spot is available for $150 in both black and white and will be available in December this year.
The feature will make an Amazon Echo a lot less passive device, and we wonder if this will make it more or less popular.
There is also a smaller version available for the Echo Plus which is nearly half the size of the original and you can get one for yourself now for about $99. Compatible with the Zigbee smart home protocol, it is priced at £140/$150/150 euros. Yesterday HEXUS covered the news that Amazon is refreshing and expanding its Smart Home device lineup, likely based upon the existing range being a resounding success. These devices also come in different designs like wood, fabric etc.
Since Alexa has been around longer, it does have support from more smart home products than the Google Assistant does. The Echo Show differs from other devices in that it includes a screen to display images and a camera for video-calling purposes.
Amazon has expanded Alexa’s recently launched calling features to allow free calls to phone numbers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. For now, Amazon has a big lead, capturing seven out of every 10 smart speaker customers in the U.S., according to eMarketer.
Are you looking for a “smart screen” home automation hub similar to the Amazon Echo Show? The $99 speaker has a dedicated woofer and tweeter for sharper music playback and new microphones to let the device understand users at a greater distance, Limp said.
Here’s our guide to the Amazon Echo lineup as it now stands, including all the devices that have been announced and are yet to be released. The same is applicable when it comes to #Amazon Echo. With plenty of games about to release for the Echo-powered devices, the Echo Button appears a perky deal for $20 that will hand you a pack of two Echo Buttons.
Echo Buttons will be available as a pair for $19.99 in the US.
Amazon’s Alexa has been around for quite a while, and it nearly started out as a mistake. You can buy Fire TV Stick + Echo Dot for $60 (Rs. 3,939) and a Fire TV + Echo Dot at $80 (Rs. 5,253).
