Amazon Devices On Fire Over Black Friday Weekend
Many people were worrying that due to too much hype, online shopping, and a general dislike for early openings, that Black Friday wouldn’t be as popular as it was in years past.
“This has already been the biggest holiday shopping season for Amazon devices, and we’re energized by the year over year growth for all of our product categories”, noted Amazon devices senior VP Dave Limp.
Amazon shares were up $6.90, or 1%, to $671.70 in premarket trading.
Sky Go has been available on Apple’s iOS devices and Google’s Android devices for some time and now Sky is launching the app on Amazon’s Fire tablets.
He added that the Fire tablet, with its sub-$50 price point and $250 six-pack bundle, has “reached a tipping point” as the company’s fastest-selling tablet ever, prompting it to ramp up production “to build millions more”.
The company said the best sellers were its Fire tablet at $49.99, the Fire TV Stick and its Echo, which was a best seller across all products on Amazon going for more than $100.
Fire TV devices (starting at .99 on Amazon) were the second most popular item after the new Fire tablet this weekend. Fire TV sales were up six times over the weekend. Amazon sold “hundreds of thousands” of Kindle e-readers over the weekend.
Fire TV is the #1 streaming media player in the United States, according to a report.
Amazon rarely provides exact sales numbers so it’s hard to compare, except to take the company’s word for it. According to the Consumer Technology Association, tablets were the No. 3 most popular Black Friday tech purchases behind smartphones and TVs.
