Amazon Is Making Custom AI Chips For Alexa
While Vizio isn’t the first home entertainment device company to embrace Alexa, it is one of the most attainable in terms of price.
It’s impossible to guess when this AI chip will be available to manufacturers, but considering Amazon just refreshed its Echo products, I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon. All devices are powered by, Amazon’s virtual assistant and you can control them with voice to perform various tasks like playing music, controlling smart home devices, setting timers, or asking basic trivia questions.
AMAZON is planning on making its Echo smart speakers snappier by creating its own artificial intelligence processors.
The new custom-chips will bring some major upgrades to Alexa’s assistant capabilities.
It was enough for its male owner to file a complaint with the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), in which he challenged whether the statement “Alexa, re-order Purina cat food” was socially irresponsible.
The chips could give Amazon other advantages, too. If that technology fails, customers are still required to “confirm a purchase” before it is ordered.
In the complainant’s case, the customer was able to immediately cancel the inadvertent Purina order. Amazon’s understood to be interested in the technology as a way to differentiate its own smart home products.
‘We concluded that the ad was not socially irresponsible and did not breach the Code’. Although these devices already use local processing to listen for the “Alexa” wake word, they still send the full voice command up to Amazon’s servers for interpretation.
We can also expect Amazon’s newer hardware efforts in future to support its online retail business.
The Eufy Genie debuted previous year, as a cheap alternative to the Echo Dot, and at $19.99, it’s less than half the price.
