Amazon launches in-car delivery for Prime members
Customers must download the Amazon Key app and link their Amazon and OnStar accounts.
For it to work, I needed an eligible vehicle – almost all Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and Volvos with a model year of 2015 or newer are compatible. Visit my.chevrolet.com, my.buick.com, my.gmc.com or my.cadillac.com to learn more. This is particularly true given last year’s discovery of a major security vulnerability in the security camera that powers Amazon Key.
Amazon will provide a four hour delivery window to customers via the Amazon Key App along with notifications about when the delivery is made.
“We have said we are excited to roll out promotions associated with our Whole Foods acquisition, and we will continue to launch into new cities”, Patel said. They need to be model year 2015 or newer with an active subscription to OnStar or Volvo on Call. “And, with no additional hardware or devices required, customers can start ordering in-car delivery today”, Larsen added.
For now, the service will be broadly useful in cities such as Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago, and it’s coming to more areas soon.
No. In-car delivery is FREE for Prime members.
Amazon’s in-home delivery service has officially expanded to include direct-to-car delivery, allowing for parked cars in publicly accessible areas to receive shipments when the recipient is not present. Amazon will notify you when your package is delivered. If you’re uncomfortable letting in a random delivery driver (rightfully so), there’s another option for you. “The in-car delivery option is another way Amazon helps ensure that my order is delivered safely and conveniently. It won’t tell them where their next delivery is until that happens”, said Shrivastava. If you want your package at driveways, garages (parking), parking lots or street parking it will be much easier because the the courier service of Amazon will have random access around the world.
The app tells customers their delivery slot, when the package is on its way and when it has been delivered – and also offers a record of when their vehicle was unlocked and relocked.
“Amazon can’t find my 3-story building and type in a key code”. Packages can put in the vehicle’s trunk or out of plain sight. It’s then locked back up after the delivery is complete.
What happens if I decide to move my vehicle last minute during my delivery window? Upon delivery, the Amazon Key app will notify the customer and an activity feed will show when the auto was unlocked and relocked again.
