Amazon Lowers Price Of Prime Membership For One Day Only
Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond present The Grand Tour, a new auto show that started on Amazon Prime Instant Video today, Friday 18 November.
“Also in this episode, Jeremy introduces the 800 horsepower Aston Martin Vulcan to the Grand Tour test track, and James is sent to investigate an unusual form of motorsport called spinning”. Currently, the show is only officially available to Amazon Prime Video customers in the U.S. and other select markets.
The series features former Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
Many market watchers had expected Amazon to use the launch of the motoring series to roll out Prime Video internationally.
Amazon, which now streams only in a few markets, announced on its website that it would launch “The Grand Tour” worldwide in December. Currently, Amazon Prime video is available just in U.S., U.K., Germany Austria and Japan, with an Indian launch coming out soon.
Of course, beyond the launch of one series, the expansion would put Amazon in a stronger position to compete with rival Netflix, which has already expanded its availability to about 190 countries.
The arrival of Prime Video in India has been hotly anticipated ever since Amazon launched its Prime service in India a few months ago. Amazon Prime Video with Prime Subscription bundle is priced at around Rs. 999 ($15 approximately) per year and also comes with other additional benefits.
The $79 Prime offer is only available for new Prime members. When this service is available to these countries, they will right away be able to access old episodes as well as new episodes every Friday. The Sydney Morning Herald said the “rush launch” was offering Australians the service, but it was still being priced in USA dollars.
The show will be in a similar vein to the on-location episodes Top Gear and will see the trio travel around the world, and filming in front of an audience in giant studio tents on location.
