Amazon Prime subscribers can now download movies and TV shows for offline
The worst part about streaming all of our TV and movies is that when the Wi-Fi dries up, you’re out of luck.
By expanding the capability to Apple and Android mobile devices, the company is essentially offering a feature on the top of consumers’ wish lists to almost everyone who uses a smartphone.
The Amazon Video app for iOS has been updated to include Prime Video downloads and is available in the app store.
Among the shows that will be available for offline viewing are Amazon originals including Transparent, Bosch and Mozart in the Jungle; shows available through Amazon’s licensing agreement with HBO including Girls, Veep and Boardwalk Empire; original kids series Wishenpoof and Tumble Leaf; and movies like Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and The Wolf of Wall Street. Amazon is trying their best to compete with the likes of famous NetFlix streaming service and now they have come up with the awesome feature that NetFlix lags at the moment. Amazon, on the other hand, took a jab directly at Netflix in the press release that announced the new feature.
Starting today, Amazon Prime members can save Instant Video content to their Android and iOS devices for offline viewing.
Prime Instant Video is primarily a streaming service, but Amazon has allowed subscribers to download content onto Amazon devices including the Fire TV and Kindle Fire. That said, it won’t work for every video, as Amazon has to pay content owners to license the downloads.
Most music streaming services let you save tunes offline for listening while you’re on an airplane or doing something else where you might lack connectivity, but offline playback isn’t something you see much with offline video.
