Amazon releases new tablet
Online retail giant Amazon has positioned its new Fire HD tablets – Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 – as impressive “budget” tablets which can ideally be used for consuming music, video, and e-books. “The widescreen display is 10.1” with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Battery life is pegged at 8 hours for browsing the Internet, reading, and other activities. Just 0.3-inches thick, the Fire HD 10 promises the convenience of Amazon’s Android spin-off Fire OS, with heavy-handed links to all the Prime content subscribers get for their annual fee.
Amazon has been known for producing Kindle Fire tablets that could stand as reasonable alternatives to the expensive Apple devices, but things may be different with the recently unveiled Fire HD 10. On the other hand, the Fire HD 10 has garnered a lot of negative reviews, especially since it debuted at $229, according to Extreme Tech. All in all, most of the users who have tried the Fire HD 10 are not recommending others to buy the product. The tablets are barely 7.7 millimeters in thickness; and are enclosed in new enclosures which Amazon has specifically crafted for them. Unlike Nokia’s unibody design, though, the Fire HD cases are clearly made out of a few pieces of plastic: “the rear portion is glossy, while the plastic that borders the screen is a duller matte finish”, the report adds.
Amazon has now launched a new Fire Tablet among several upgraded devices that it has released, as a part of an effort to boost mobile and t-commerce through affordable, practical gadgets. Pre-order can be done on Amazon, and shipping starts September 30.
