Amazon’s Prime Day Launch Experienced Some Technical Problems
The Amazon website fails to load during “Prime Day” on Monday, July 16, 2018. It’s not flawless, and some of those skills need to ironed out, but it’s trying to do more in one device than any of the rest of Amazon’s lineup.
Meanwhile, Amazon workers, who have long gone on strike in the run-up to the holidays, have found a new occasion to get their employer’s attention: Prime Day.
“We had a ruff start”, Amazon said. Google Home devices are also on sale to compete with Amazon’s massive Echo sale.
The hiccups, though, could have sent shoppers elsewhere during a key period for Amazon to sign up new Prime members.
Prime members in 17 countries participated in the online shopping event, including – for the first time – Australia.
Unai Sordo, CCOO’s secretary general, said in a Twitter post on Monday that Amazon must resume negotiations and guarantee the workers’ “unquestionable rights”. These discounts are good for the next 40 hours, so be sure to take advantage of them quickly.
Plus, when you spend $100 or more today, you’ll get a free membership for same-day delivery for six months. “It’s much bigger than that”. Eighty percent of online sentiment about Prime Day conveyed anger or sadness, according to Crimson Hexagon, which monitors social-media feedback.
“They have a lot of Amazon products in Whole Foods stores now”, said Dan Ackerman, a section editor for CNET.
Here’s the biggest bummer of Prime Day for Nintendo fans: Very few Switch games or 3DS games have gone on sale. He said Amazon heavily promoted its own devices and its own brands, but he wanted to see heavier promotions on national-label fashions.
We’re nearly at the close of Prime Day 2018, and if you’re anything like me, you’re praying that you won’t see any more great offers to make you pull out your wallet once again. As Feldman notes, Target said last year that it saw strong growth even its regular price business around Prime Day last year. Almost half of all e-commerce goes through Amazon, according to research from eMarketer.
After the United States, Germany is Amazon’s second largest national market. The unions that represent the warehouse workers, Comisiones Obreras and Verdi services union, say they are calling for better working conditions, pay, and health benefits.
“The outage is especially problematic as many of Amazon’s Prime deals are promoted for a set window of time – something that could cause a great deal of frustration for potential customers”, GlobalData Retail Managing Director Neil Saunders told CNBC.
