Amazon Web Services Is Down, If You Didn’t Already Know

Millions of small websites, app backends, and various high-profile services are offline or experiencing severe issues because of a mysterious problem that hit Amazon’s S3 (Simple Storage Service) a few hours ago.

The problems affected sites like Business Insider, Giphy, Quora, filesharing in Slack and image and video hosting at many publishing sites.
Several website that are used to check the online status of web severs also appear to have been affected by the issue.
The Associated Press also reported “issues with delays” involving the wire service’s content delivery system.
AWS is usually one of the internet’s most reliable services.
Even with two established tech companies treading into its territory, however, Amazon is not backing down and has, instead, launched productivity services that both Microsoft and Google have offered.

The culprit is an Amazon Web Services issue, which has caused “increased error rates” for east coast based websites Tuesday afternoon. “You will see updates for individual services shortly”. “App operations are still on lockdown for us-east-1 stacks now, but we’ll unlock them as soon as we get confirmation that the incident has been resolved on the AWS side”.
