AMD Radeon Software Crimson Driver Hotfix Coming Tomorrow For Fan Fix
Are you facing problems with AMD’s new Crimson Drivers? It comes with a host of new features and a shinier overall presentation – but could also be responsible for the fiery death of a number of GPUs.
A random assortment of AMD GPU users recently reported seeing the fans in their graphics cards locked to a maximum 20 percent speed limit regardless of the load they were under.
After users complaints on forums and social media about their AMD cards burning out, AMD has announced that they will be issuing a fix for their latest Crimson drivers due to one very, very serious issue. This means that PC gamers will have to turn it back on auto to prevent their graphics card overheating.
It’s not an isolated case, thou some reports suggest it’s only happening to non-reference cards that utilise soft-overclocking. AMD acknowledged this issue and claimed that it will release a hotfix tomorrow.
Not every user who installed the Radeon Software Crimson driver has run into issues with GPU fan speeds, and there don’t appear to be any specific GPU models that are affected. Its engineering teams have identified and addressed this issue, and AMD intends to release a hotfix on amd.com this coming Monday, November 30. Slotting the graphics cards into different PCI-E ports on the same Windows 10 machine that suffered from the fan speed issue allowed the system to POST, but games flickered too much to be playable. “However, for me, this doesn’t work and I need to do this in the global overdrive settings”.
It seems that the Crimson Software will lock your fan speed when resetting OverDrive settings. Anyway, if you’ve been noticing some unusually hot temperatures in your AMD system lately, this is probably why.
