AMD unveils new processors targeting Windows 10 market
There is a new player (or a series of players) in town in the form of AMD Pro APUs that the company announced very recently.
The innovative architecture of new AMD PRO processors delivers compelling performance to stay ahead of the evolving demands of business today.
A major focus of AMD PRO is rock-solid Windows 10 support.
On Tuesday, AMD quietly launched an updated family of AMD Pro processors for business notebooks that are based on the existing Godaveri and Carrizo chips, but with additional security and stability features for businesses. This is dubbed as a one-stop shop for “intuitive” system configuration. It is aimed at small and medium businesses without their own implemented management tools. That IGP is going to be clocked at 800MHz, and will include an impressive 512 graphics cores.
First commercial processor in the industry created to be compliant with the Heterogeneous Systems Architecture (HSA) 1.0 specification to make programming accelerators such as the GPU far simpler, leading to greater application performance at low power consumption.
Out of the gate, AMD already has a major win with one major systems provider: HP.
The welcome news of a fresh product launch comes as a funding deal that would have seen investment group Silver Lake take a 20-25 per cent stake in AMD hits the rocks, with Bloomberg reporting this week that discussions are on hold and AMD is looking at ‘other strategic options’ to secure the company’s future.
Although AMD markets its Pro chips to whoever will buy them, HP has been a favored customer. “Godavari” APUs feature improved CPU and graphics performance over previous generation “Kaveri” Accelerated Processing Units, achieved primarily through higher CPU and GPU clock speeds while maintaining the same TDP – Thermal Design Power – figures of the previous generation “Kaveri” APUs. New HP laptops using the AMD PRO mobile chips include the HP EliteBook 725, 745 and 755 series.
The Pro A-Series desktop processors aren’t quite as exciting, but are said to offer “an aggressive price with enhanced performance” alongside socket compatibility for easy upgrades. For tasks like VOIP and streaming video, AMD Quick Stream PRO is said to virtually eliminate the lag that users may suffer from with other processor solutions.
AMD PRO processors assist with graphics-intensive workloads by including AMD Radeon graphics.
“Delivering a no-compromise IT deployment experience has always been a top priority for us at Lenovo“, said Jun Ouyang, vice president and general manager, desktop & visuals business unit, Lenovo. “By collaborating with AMD, our ThinkCentre desktops are better equipped to deliver great value without sacrificing performance or manageability”.
