Former AC Milan stopper Amelia, 33, has been training at Chelsea’s Cobham base and has now finalised a deal to act as an emergency back-up to Asmir Begovic.

Marco Amelia, who had been out of contract since the end of last season, was spotted sitting behind the Chelsea bench during last weekend’s home loss to Southampton.

Chelsea have been looking to bring in another experienced goalkeeper after losing number 1 Thibaut Courtois to injury; the Belgian is only expected to be fit to return to action in December.

Dinamo Moscow midfielder Arijan Ademi failed a drug test after his side beat Arsenal in the Champions League last month.

Amelia will probably not play much for the Blues with Begovic already established as Courtois’ back-up, but the Italian’s arrival will at least rid Mourinho of one headache.

Behind a leaky defence, stand-in Begovic has excelled and impressed since arriving from Stoke City in an £8million move this summer.
