American golfer Jason Bohn suffers heart attack during Honda Classic in Florida
Phil Mickelson walks onto the 14th green after hitting out out of the rough during the second round of the Honda Classic golf tournament, Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Matsuyama felt pain while practicing just before the start of his round. “I apologize profusely”, the announcer said on the microphone before taking a mulligan. “I also don’t want to push through it and end up hurting something else”, he gave as reason for dropping out.
“It was still very tough out there, very windy”, Garcia told Golf Channel after playing the opening round in the company of world number five Rickie Fowler.
Sergio Garcia of Spain hits his tee shot on the 17th hole during the first round of the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Thursday. The next day, he went an hour north to The Floridian and shot 60 to break the course record held by Justin Thomas.
Garcia lost the lead with a bogey from the bunker on the 17th, and caught Scott with a short birdie on the 18th for a 67. And then if it becomes a two-horse race on the last three or four holes, I’ll welcome that. After opening in 70 and bogey-free 65, Scott sat solo fourth, three back of 36-hole leader Rickie Fowler and played out of the penultimate twosome with Garcia.
Or maybe not. After all, it ended in another European victory.
“Again today I didn’t make a lot, but I made the ones that you expect to make”.
Friday, the world’s No. 5 player had the gallery gasping on No. 1 when he pushed his tee shot far to the right of the cart path. They were yelping after he guided his second shot through a maze of pine branches and made par. “I really could have gotten a couple more, so that was a bummer, but I’m not anxious about it. You’re not losing ground with pars”. It was the second straight year McIlroy has failed to reach the weekend at the Honda. “It’s right there. I’d love to do it, at least once in my career, to say I’ve played pretty much every event that’s out there”.
The cut line was 3-over, the highest line of the season by three strokes. He hit a birdie on the final hole, pushing him into a tie with Scott for the lead.
Coming off a missed cut of his own, Walker started off with a bang.
It seemed evident early that Scott was locked in, as he made five birdies in a seven-hole stretch, including four straight from No. 6 through 9, to make the turn at five under par for the day.
Asked to speak to a group of reporters, McIlroy said, “Not doing it”, and headed to the locker room.
